Restoration House WNC is dedicated to restoring lives in our community.
Embracing Low Barrier and Housing First Policies:
At the core of Restoration House WNC's philosophy is the commitment to offer unconditional support to those in need, regardless of their current situation or background. This principle is evident in our low-barrier policies, designed to eliminate as many obstacles as possible that may prevent individuals from accessing our services.
Whether it's our cold weather shelter, food pantries, or other assistance programs, we maintain minimal prerequisites for service. We understand that requiring too many conditions or documentation can be a significant barrier for many in desperate need. Therefore, we welcome all without stringent requirements, ensuring that aid is readily available to those who need it most.
Aligned with the Housing First model, we prioritize providing housing without preconditions like sobriety or employment. Stable housing is the foundation upon which individuals can start to rebuild their lives. Once housed, we offer various supportive services tailored to their specific needs, be it counseling, addiction treatment, job training, or financial planning.
Sustainable Pathways:
At Restoration House WNC and our Sweet Dreams Shelter, we recognize that providing shelter is the first step in a longer journey toward stability and self-sufficiency. Our focus extends beyond temporary relief to fostering long-term empowerment for those we serve. The Sweet Dreams Shelter is more than just a place to sleep; it's a launchpad for rebuilding lives.
Building sustainable pathways out of poverty requires collaboration with various stakeholders. We partner with local businesses, educational institutions, and other non-profits to provide diverse opportunities for our residents. These partnerships help secure job placements, educational opportunities, and other essential services, ensuring a comprehensive support system.
A key aspect of our approach is facilitating the transition from shelter to permanent housing. Sweet Dreams Shelter works closely with residents to identify suitable housing options and assists with the application process, moving logistics, and securing household necessities. We aim to ensure that when residents leave the shelter, they step into a stable living situation that supports their continued progress.

Rooted in a profound need for expanded social service offerings in our local community, Restoration House WNC emerged as a beacon of hope and support. Founded in 2016, our journey began within the compassionate walls of Bryson City United Methodist Church under the guidance of Pastor Wayne Dickert and Catherine Gantt. Recognizing the urgent necessity for a centralized hub of assistance, our Resource Day Center was born, symbolizing our commitment to addressing the multifaceted needs of those struggling in our community. Here, we provide case management and basic needs.
In 2019, a generous donation of a building marked a significant milestone in our journey, allowing us to establish a dedicated cold weather shelter. This expansion broadened our capabilities and deepened our resolve to be a pillar of support, offering shelter, nourishment, and pathways to stability for those in need. At Restoration House WNC, we are more than just a service provider; we are a community-driven mission dedicated to uplifting and empowering the lives of our neighbors.
